山部赤人とともに歌聖と呼ばれ、 三十六歌仙の一人でもある。

He, with YAMABE no Akahito, was called a kasei(great poet), ranked as one of the Thirty-six Poetry Immortals.

現代語訳
山鳥の長く垂れ下がっている尾のように、私は長い夜をひとり寂しく寝るのだろう。

Like the long tail hanging down of the mountain bird, I would sleep lonely.
